Build an App Prototype without Writing Code

About 5 years ago an emerging technology trend, “no-code apps” entered the mainstream. A no-code application is a fully functioning web application that can be built without writing any code.

Platforms like Bubble, Webflow, and Microsoft’s Power Apps allow anyone to build a no-code application. If you have an idea for an application, a no-code platform is a compelling tool to use to build a prototype quickly, without the need for a Software Engineer. It’s also great for Product Managers to build a no-code application to develop a fundamental understanding of how a Web application works.

A few years ago I built a no-code app called Music Beaver, which helped musicians organize their song ideas. I built it on Bubble.

Prior to this project I had never used Bubble, so it took me about a month to learn the basics of the platform. It’s feature rich, and there was much more I could have learned, but my objective was to learn just enough to enable myself to build a prototype.

One of the most helpful resources to learning the platform was Buildcamp, a collection of tutorials and courses on how to build no-code apps using Bubble. Buildcamp’s founder and instructor, Gregory John, just posted a 3-hour Beginners Tutorial on Bubble. If you’re interested in learning how to get started building on Bubble, start with this video:
